THE new Team Rector of the Golden Cap Team has been licensed, inducted and installed.

The Revd Chris Martin, formerly a vicar in East Devon, has taken on the role of overseeing the 12 Dorset and Devon churches, which make the Golden Cap benefice.

More than 200 people gathered in St Andrew’s Church in Charmouth on Monday, March 2 to welcome Revd Chris and his wife Tina to the area.

The service was led by Bishop Karen with support from the diocese of Exeter, Gloucester and Bath and Wells.

Margaret Trafford from the Golden Cap Team said: “Chris was presented to Bishop Karen by one of our Patrons and then the service began.

"The next stage was to go to the font where Blossom Harvey spoke beautifully. Returning to the Chancel step, Chris was then presented with a Bible and then a Chalice.

"The licensing section of the service was next, with Chris affirming the Oaths. Bishop Karen read the Licence and then handed it to Chris.

"The Induction and Installation section of the service was taken by Archdeacon Penny, who led Chris and the Churchwardens towards the door where Chris was presented with a key to each church in the Benefice.

"Chris then rang the bell as a sign of the start of his ministry.

"Chris moved back to the Chancel where he was formally welcomed into the Golden Cap Benefice by the congregation and key members of the community.

"The evening flowed beautifully, all readings, the Sermon and welcomes were flawless and inspiring. The service ended with a time of fellowship and wonderful canapes and drinks supplied by a hard-working catering team.

"A truly wonderful evening, and a big thank you to everyone who took part!"
