LYME REGIS: The town council has deferred its decision on what to do with the Marine Parade lifts until a wider review of the area has been completed.

The town management and highways committee were due to discuss the options for the lift at last Wednesday’s meeting (March 4).

The lift has been out of order since the end of the summer and has been plagued with problems since its installation in 2011, including damage caused by the seaside conditions.

Adrianne Mullins of Lyme Regis Town Council said: “We will be completing a wider review on how the shelters are used.

“Until we know what we’re going to do with the Langmoor Room and other spaces we won’t be committing tens of thousands of pounds to the lift.”

Discussing the review, Cllr Rob Smith said: "I think we need to work out what we want the area to be used for. It doesn't quite work as what it was intended to be and we need to think about what it's best used for and finding the right solution rather than just fix something because it's broken."

The review is expected to take place in the next couple of months.
