A PAINTING by a Dorset-based artist will be auctioned as part of a fundraising effort for local charity GO Girls.

As reported, GO Girls are teaming up with Weymouth and Portland Lions Club for a fundraising cabaret night this week featuring comedian Helen Lederer, plus music, humour and magic with Matt Black and Rus Andrews.

Paul Liggins’ painting 'Catski', which was inspired by and features the Lions Club mascot, will be auctioned at the event.

GO Girls work to raise awareness for gynaecological cancers alongside for earlier diagnosis and improved treatments.

Chairman and CEO of GO girls, Hilary Maxwell, said: “We expect many people will want to bid for this painting”.

John Kelly from the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club said: “This has been an exciting project and we are all thrilled with Paul’s creation. It captures so much about Weymouth: it’s full of interest and character and captures Paul’s whimsical and humorous style which has become his trademark which we all so know and love.”

The painting is 28 x 28 inches, painted in acrylics and depicts Weymouth Harbour in a cartoonish style.

Paul Liggins, who is showcasing his work at the Harbour Gallery on Weymouth quay, said: “It’s been a huge pleasure to undertake this for GO Girls: I have been impressed by their dedication and relentless hard work. I am looking forward to running art classes with them later this year to continue to support their work.”

He added: “The painting's owner will not only know they have a painting which no one else will have but perhaps more satisfyingly knowing that buying this artwork will help support those with a gynaecological cancer and help improve lives in the future.”

Bids can be received up until midday on Thursday March 19 via hello@gogirlssupport.org.

The cabaret night is this Friday, March 20 at Weymouth Golf Club.
