Tribute to Town Crier

I HAVE now read two articles, in the Dorset Echo about the proposed new Town Crier, something which I agree would be of benefit to the town. However I was very disappointed to see no mention in either piece about our wonderful last Town Crier, Doris Eastwood. Doris was a great ambassador for Weymouth, representing the town at many competitions and at many of the twinning events.

Doris was always seen leading the procession at carnival time and chatting with as many people as possible on route. Even after becoming unwell she still turned out, once on the back of a rickshaw, I know because I was pedalling. Assuming a new Town Crier is appointed, if he/she shows as much dedication to the position as Doris, we will be very fortunate indeed.
