Trains are being disrupted due to a signalling problem.

All lines are blocked between Wool and Dorchester as a result.

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed.

The disruption is expected until 9pm.

A spokesman for South Western Railway said: “We have been informed that there is a track circuit failure between Wool and Dorchester South.

“Until further notice the following alterations will be necessary:

“Trains between Waterloo and Weymouth will only run between Waterloo and Wool

“We have requested replacement buses to run on the following routes: Wool – Weymouth.

“For further information, please speak to a member of station staff or use a station help point.

“We’re sorry for any disruption to your journey today.”

Weymouth resident Colin Hobbs said he had been travelling home when all passengers were ordered off the train at Wool.

"After 40 minutes in the cold, they told us we should be picked up as five taxis were en-route.

"I counted over 60 people waiting. I asked what about those remaining when the five taxis were full; we were told they were trying to get more.

"Eventually along came a bus. What should have been an 18.18 arrival in Weymouth has long gone."
