Bridport Community Fridge will be helping out needy residents during the coronavirus outbreak.

Elizabeth Harley co-ordinator of the Community Fridge said: “We are opening the community fridge for one hour to accommodate visitors one at a time with extra hygiene procedures in place. We are hoping to have food parcels to deliver when we can no longer open.”

The Community Fridge will be open for an hour at a time and will be supervised.

Supervisors will oversee hand cleansing and glove-wearing.

One person at a time is to use the community fridge.

Those using it have been asked to be ‘considerate’ and ‘generous’ to each other and the rationing of items may be put in place.

The new open times are as follows (However, these may vary)

  • Tuesday 11am to 12pm
  • Wednesday 10am to 11am
  • Thursday 10am to 11am
  • Friday 10am to 11am
  • Saturday 10am to 11am
  • Sunday TBC

*The Community Fridge will be running from Bridport Unitarian Chapel in the Garden.

Food bank

Meanwhile, Beaminster Food Bank will be open from 10am to 12noon on Monday and Fridays.

A spokesman for the food bank said: “In these uncertain times we want to keep open to help anyone in need.

“Drop in at Prout Bridge and you can self-refer. You will be asked to fill in a simple form and then we can prepare a food package for you.

“You may be asked to wait outside or return at a different time to collect your food package.

“We can help anyone living in Beaminster or the surrounding villages.

“Please do turn up on Monday or Friday or ring 01308 861030.”
