COASTGUARDS were kept busy on Sunday with two rescues in one day.

A dramatic rescue took place at Chapman's Pool, Purbeck, when an injured person was winched to safety.

Shortly after midday, Kimmeridge coastguards were called reports a person had sustained an arm fracture.

On arrival, the St Albans team were already at the scene with an ambulance crew assessing the injured person and planning best means of extraction.

Swanage lifeboat was also tasked in case the person was required to be rescued by sea and sent a crewman to shore to assist ambulance crews and coastguards.

Due to the person's condition, and the difficulties involved trying to get them back to the ambulance, a helicopter was requested and a winch recovery was carried out.

After helping with the stretcher carry from helicopter to ambulance, St Albans and Kimmeridge and both Swanage lifeboats were stood down.

Whilst leaving the scene to return to station, multiple 999 calls came in for a windsurfer in difficulty in Swanage Bay.

Due to the team's location, it was sent to take a look.

Arriving at the same time as the Swanage lifeboats, a quick assessment was carried out by Swanage inshore lifeboat crew. Swanage coastguard team was also deployed.

The windsurfer was able to recover himself and the board back to the shore under the eye of the lifeboat crew and greeted by two Kimmeridge coastguard rescue officers.

After an assessment to see if any medical assistance was required, the windsurfer was deemed to be in good health. His windsurfing board fin had become damaged so he was struggling to get back to shore.

The team returned to station, closing down at about 4.30pm.
