AN application to demolish a garage in Tennyson Road, Weymouth and replaced it with a single storey bungalow home has been refused.

It was the fourth application for an additional home on the site. Other application have been for a two storey, two-bed home; a single storey home with rooms in the roof and a one-bed single storey property. Each has been refused, including one which went to appeal.

The latest application for the garden site at 2 Tennyson Road was for a hipped roof bungalow which planning officers decided would not reflect the pattern of development in the area, said to be mainly two storey semi-detached homes. Officers said it would appear alien to the street scene: β€œIt would still appear as a contrived form of development not respecting the local distinctiveness of the area.”

There was also concern about the effect on neighbouring homes and a claim that the amenity space for the new home would not be adequate.

The planning application had met with no objections during the consultation stage from neighbours with Weymouth Town Council planning committee voting not to object.
