POLICE are still having to deal with people turning up at beauty spots in their cars.

A spokesman for Weymouth and Portland Police said officers had to send numerous people home on Sunday for making non-essential journeys.

He said: "Patrols have seen us visiting all corners of Weymouth and Portland.

"This afternoon we found more cars parked at Bowleaze. Strangely a number of them drove off as soon as they saw us which would suggest the occupants knew they shouldn't be there and should have been at home.

"We spoke to a couple at The Marsh who were sat drinking cups of tea on one of the benches. To make matters worse they were drinking from cups that had brought from home which was nearby. They were told to go home. This was not an essential journey.

"A member of public had driven to Sandsfoot Castle and was found sat in their car reading a newspaper. They were told to go home. This was not an essential journey.

"A member of public was parked in their car in the Park & Ride car park watching videos on his phone. They were told to go home. This was not an essential journey.

"Please stay at home unless your journey is essential."
