A WEYMOUTH GP has found a unique way of finding love amidst the gloom whilst he urges people to stay inside and follow government advice.

Dr Paul Nicholls has managed to turn the word COVID into the word LOVE by cutting out the letters and sticking them down in different positions.

Dr Nicholls said: "I was making an anniversary card for my wife. Last year I made a 'Brexit' card and this year it's 'COVID'."

The card is a fun idea but Dr Nicholls's concerns about the dangers of coronavirus and of people ignoring government advice is anything but.

"We are going to have to make some very hard decisions in the near future. In hospitals they are making tough calls with beds but even as GPs, we are the people who try to protect those hospital beds and decide who is in them and that is going to be a very hard decision in some cases.

"It's a very challenging time and all of these decisions will need to be made in the weeks to come. There is no easy answer."

Resources are running low in pharmacies across Dorset. Inhalers and antibiotics are particularly scarce as patients are stockpiling medicine.

Dr Nicholls, GP at Wyke Regis and Lanehouse Medical Practice, in Weymouth, added: "Please follow the guidelines and stay at home if possible.

"We will do everything that we can for the most vulnerable people to ensure that we provide them with the medical care that they need without them leaving the house.

"We don't want to be putting ourselves in harms way, but we need to be providing a service for patients who need medical care.

"We are still here for you if you need us but, if it isn't absolutely urgent, then please can it wait and be managed at some point in the future when the pressure is off us."
