A CURRY house in Weymouth made a special delivery to police, ambulance crews and hospital staff to say 'thank you'.

Nice 'n' Spicy Indian takeaway on Dorchester Road showed that food is the way to the heart, and dropped off free curries for staff at Weymouth police station, Weymouth ambulance station, and Dorset County Hospital's accident and emergency department.

To keep workers going during coronavirus crisis, chefs at Nice 'N' Spicy rustled up mouth-watering chicken and vegetable curry dishes, alongside hearty portions of rice and naan bread.

As well as delivering to emergency services departments, the family-owned business also gave curries to carers at a nearby nursing home.

Nice 'N' Spicy owner Naz Islam said he thought emergency services and key workers must get "very hungry" in their line of duty, and wanted to show his appreciation after witnessing police in action.

"Last Sunday we saw a few policemen and police cars out and about in the area, checking up on people and generally doing a really great job," he said.

"We've also heard a lot in the media about how emergency services and carers are risking their own lives every day - they're working really hard to save people.

"We just wanted to do so something to say thank you for everything they're doing to keep us safe. Working in that industry must make you very hungry."

Nice 'n' Spicy was established nearly 20 years ago, and Mr Islam said the business is proud to have a five star hygiene rating and a loyal base of customers in the local area.

The business is currently closed in line with current Government guidelines, and is not doing takeaways for the time being, however Naz said he is looking forward to the day he is able to reopen.

"We'd really love to help again in future," he added. "We just wanted our emergency services to know how much we appreciate them."
