I AM a historian and author of books on the RAF.
On December 16, 1941 a British Wellington bomber of 218 Squadron crashed near Holm Farm, Powerstock. One of the crew, dazed and suffering from shock, stumbled across a property owned by a Mr Egerton.
She fed the young airman, gave him a pair of her son pyjamas and sent him to bed. Even when the local police arrived she refused them entry insisting that the young airman be allowed to sleep. She won!
I am trying to find any other details on this wonderful incident. I am hoping that locals may recall the events for my forthcoming book. Thank for any help.
