AN 11-YEAR-OLD boy has written to his local MP, pleading for something to be done after his sister was left in tears after being verbally assaulted by customers.

Lucas Voss has written to West Dorset MP, Chris Loder, and explained there weren’t many members of staff at the pharmacy where his sister worked and some of those getting medication are ‘shouting and being horrible’.

The letter was a homework assignment and he decided to make a plea to the MP after seeing his sister, Kadie Foot, crying after a day at work at Lloyds pharmacy in Bridport.

In the letter, Lucas said: “Dear Chris Loder, I feel like something needs to be done at the Bridport pharmacy. At the moment there is not a lot of staff and the people who are getting their medication are shouting and being horrible to the staff members.

“They are running low on staff at the moment and they are trying to work very hard but can’t because they shout at them and make them upset. My sister works there and came home crying.”

Lucas’ mother, Vikki, said the pharmacy has been understaffed and staff had received ‘a lot of abuse in person and online’ and since the coronavirus pandemic with customers having to wait for a long time, things have got worse for them.

She said: “After two weeks of being in self-isolation, my daughter went to work as a key worker on the frontline and came home afterwards and in a video call to us completely broke down, sobbing her heart out. People don’t realise the effects their behaviour is having on the staff there; it has been happening daily. My son witnessed her crying and when he had to do his homework from school, I left him to it and came back to read it, he made me cry.

“He is 11-years-old and I am so proud of him.”

“We were all so sad as we couldn’t even hug her due to her not living with us, it is heart-breaking as a parent.

“I wish people would be more patient and kind when key workers are risking their own lives to keep people supplied with their medication, people need to think about other’s mental health as we are all in the same boat.

“She has the world on her shoulders right now, I am so proud of her.

“She is straight back working as she doesn’t want to let anyone down, especially the customers.

“I just wish they could see what we see and then maybe they would be more patient.”
