ANOTHER cruise ship has anchored in Weymouth Bay.

The P&O ship Aurora has joined its sister ship Ventura anchored off Weymouth and Portland.

The cruise company describes the Aurora as 'mid-sized' but with a length of 270 metres it is able to accommodate 1,874 guests as well as 860 crew members.

After a refit in 2019 the ship now caters exclusively for adults.

According to the P&O website, the ship's next scheduled trip will leave Southampton on August 9 for a seven-night trip around Portugal, Spain and France.

The P&O ship Ventura sailed in on Wednesday. It also has no passengers on board.

Cruise companies have been forced to abandon cruises due to the coronavirus outbreak, with Portland Port being affected by a number of cancellations.

Ian McQuade, General Manager (Commercial) of Portland Port, previously said: “Unfortunately these are unprecedented times for the cruise industry and we are liaising closely with our cruise line customers. We anticipate cancellations for the forthcoming cruise season, though at this stage it is hard to predict when and where these will fall."
