THOSE living in sheltered housing joined in with the rest of Dorset on Friday, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day .
Christchurch Court in Dorchester proudly displayed decorations of union jack flags and bunting. The residents were visited by the local town crier and also received VE Day packs containing war time poems, puzzles and crosswords.
Neighbours were socially distancing on their lawns, from their doorsteps and out of windows, celebrating with the rest of their community as best they could.
Jude Wilkins, Head of Sheltered and Supported Housing, said: “Many of our sheltered customers grew up through the war and whilst this wasn’t the big celebrations that we would have all loved to mark the day with, it was important for us to celebrate the anniversary, remember our heroes of the Second World War and reflect the sacrifices of a generation.”
