Mourners lined the streets as a funeral was held for a former Weymouth pub landlady.

Liz Nubeebuckus died at her home on April 24 aged 63 with her family beside her.

Her funeral took place on Tuesday, May 12 at Melcombe Regis Cemetery and, whilst social distancing rules were followed, a large number of people paid their respects to her.

Ralph Nubeebuckus, Liz's husband, said: "We were only allowed 10 people at the graveside but there were more people about 50 yards away observing social distancing and paying their respects.

"It was a very nice service with hymns and a eulogy by Liz's son Stephen which was very moving.

"We live in a cul-de-sac of 17 houses and all the neighbours were out as well as people in nearby roads and people by the cemetery. There were at least a couple of hundred people.

"Liz has always been a fan of Elvis Presley so the coffin was white with Elvis all over it. She planned exactly what she wanted for the funeral."

Liz and Ralph had been in business together for 25 years in Weymouth, owning Montevideo House (now Queen Charlotte Care Home), The Riviera Hotel, Bowleaze and The Lugger Inn at Chickerell.

Mr Nubeebuckus said: "She was a very popular, friendly, generous, lively lady and was much loved by everyone who knew her. She was a generous caring person who would help anybody.

"She lived life to the full and would often be seen on Friday and Saturday nights in the various bars around the town. Her passing will leave a void in many hearts."

Liz had planned to hold a celebration of her life before she passed away so that she could meet her friends, however, the lockdown was put in place five days before it was scheduled so it had to be cancelled.

Mr Nubeebuckus added: "We will do a memorial service in her memory and a celebration of her life when the lockdown is over and we can all meet again."
