A group ranging from 21 to 88-years-old has been busy making scrubs for frontline health and care workers in west Dorset.
The Eype Scrubs Sewing Group (ESSG), made up of 20 members, has already delivered more than 200 laundry bags, 400 headbands, 40 facemasks and 100 scrub hats made from their homes, with Eype Schoolroom being used as an operational base, thanks to the generosity of the schoolroom trustees.
A spokesman said: “Over the last few weeks we have delivered to Dorset County Hospital, Weldmar Hospicecare, care workers and local medical practises. The ESSG is now supplying Dorset County Hospital and Weldmar Hospicecare with specific orders, and others, including the West Dorset Scrubbers.”
Residents have raised more than £3,000 for the cause, much of which has been spent on haberdashery items, plus many local shops and residents have donated material, buttons and other supplies.
But the group is in need of patterned cotton or polycotton fabric - washed at 60 degrees before delivering - and 1 to 1.5 inch buttons. Members are also in need of further funds to enable them to order commercially.
Anyone wishing to make a donation, either money or materials, can contact the group by emailing eypeschool1859@gmail.com
