Three detached homes have been approved to the rear of a house in Chickerell.
Neighbours had written to Dorset Council both in support and against the application, with Chickerell Town Council asking for the proposal to be refused.
Town councillors said the site was outside the development boundary and could have a detrimental effect on the heritage coastline.
The approved application is for a large garden and storage area on the western side of the road, behind an existing two storey detached home at number 479 Chickerell Road.
The applications is for three brick and timber clad detached homes, each with slate roofs. One is proposed to be two-bed, the others with four bedrooms, with eight parking spaces between them.
The planning application says that a number of dilapidated buildings will be cleared away if the development goes ahead, a move which was welcomed in letter to the council by two of the neighbours who wrote in support of the application.
