Three homes have been approved for a site on the east side of Knighton Lane in Broadmayne.

The application brought objections from some village residents concerned about potential flooding, traffic and the building line being further back than other houses in the area.

Broadmayne parish council also objected claiming the scheme would be an overdevelopment and contrary to the Local Plan. It also raised ‘serious concerns’ about the access to the site which it says is on a difficult junction with Knighton Lane and used by children on their way to the village school.

Despite the objections Dorset Council approved the scheme, which includes access and parking to the rear for the terraced row of three two-storey homes. The homes will have a staggered roof line from north to south to take account of the slope of the land. Each will be faced with flint and brick with slate roofs.

Planning officers said that the principle of developing the site had been established by a previous application for two houses and the site was considered ‘sustainable’, making a useful contribution to the housing supply.

“Matters such as flood risk, highway safety, biodiversity and archaeology can be satisfactorily addressed or mitigated by the proposed conditions,” said an officer’s report.

“Overall, it is not considered that there is any harm to the scheme that would significantly and demonstrably outweigh the identified benefits. The application is therefore recommended for approval, subject to conditions.”
