Like hundreds of other constituents I have written to Chris Loder MP about Dominic Cummings.

I am afraid his response to my letter is confused and ignores his responsibility as an elected representative to form a judgement and share it with us.

There is a vital need to not do as Dominic Cummings did, but rather to obey what the lock down rules say. I believe his lack of clarity will lead constituents who are now minded to disregard Government health messages even more confused.

He states that there is ‘moral responsibility’ for the Government to ensure guidance is followed. I agree there is indeed a heavy moral responsibility which applies to all of us. However it is not adequate for him to simply state this duty and pass it on to the Government.

If as he says he believes Dominic Cummings did wrong he should state what he believes the consequences of this wrong doing should be. Without clearly and categorically doing this he will rightly be held morally responsible for the consequences of the mixed messaging.

To put this plainly - more people will ignore the guidelines, more people will therefore become infected and tragically more of his constituents will die. I hope he will find the moral courage to speak out privately and publicly to rectify the disastrous position.
