A YOUNG girl from west Dorset has made a poster thanking the NHS for their work during the pandemic and encouraging people to stay at home.

Willow Bowditch, 10, made the sign last month to show her support for the NHS and to encourage people to be kind to each other during the pandemic.

The poster was unable to be showcased at Willow's house in Bradpole, Bridport, as she lives on a corner and her garden cannot be seen from the road.

To ensure it would be seen, Willow took the poster round the corner to her grandparents house where it has been pinned up to the shed her grandmother, Sue Bowditch, keeps her mobility scooter in.

Sue Bowditch said: "Willow is such a caring little girl. She said to her daddy she wanted to do a poster and she did it all by herself in one afternoon.

"The poster is made out of an old roller blind which she laid out flat and used white paint and white tape to write the words.

"People walk past and say what a lovely sign it is and ask who made it and I get to feel proud and tell them that it was my granddaughter."

Three years ago, Willow cut off a large section of her hair to donate to the Little Princess Trust after she went into hospital to have her tonsils taken out and saw a little girl going through chemotherapy who had lost her hair.

She has also seen her grandparents experience a number of health problems and rely on the NHS.

Sue Bowditch said: "She really is such a caring girl and she loves to help. She knows me and her grandad have had a lot of health problems so I think she made the sign because she feels like she wants to give something back.

Sue added: "The poster is fantastic and everyone comments on it when they go past. Once Willow gets an idea in her head and sets her mind to something off she goes and does it. I'm so proud of her."
