Richard Sloan is the latest unfortunate victim, in a long series, of the council’s inability to get round to doing something about the real and persistent danger of the harbourside railway tracks.

Over the years the council has been prepared to watch one person after another be injured, sometimes seriously; at this present time, the considerable cost to the emergency services of any such incident is a further, and entirely unnecessary, burden.

It remains to be seen whether a grant of £1 million will rouse the council from its chronic torpor to address this issue with the urgency it requires.
