AS THE people of Bristol cry and struggle with how to remember Colston, on whose generosity much of that great city has prospered, we in Dorset and Weymouth may be inspired by the brief memory and legacy of Buxton - whose local monument stands on Bincleaves Green, Weymouth.

We aren’t excused from our collective biases and prejudices by this, for sure, but we can all be thankful for the inspiration of Thomas Fowell Buxton (and others like him) who struggled creatively with the atrocities of racism he encountered; who lived out his belief in the unquestionable equality and sanctity of all.
