SPEEDING drivers and motorcyclists were caught going too fast along the coast road at the weekend.

On Sunday, Dorset Police's No Excuse team was monitoring the 50mph areas of the B3157 Weymouth to Bridport.

A spokesman for the team said: "We would also like to thank the hundreds of cars and motorcycles driving within the limits, with many of the motorcycle riders nodding as they rode by.

"Most of the offenders were surprised to be stopped and again we heard a few excuses. However if you drive at motorway or dual carriageway speeds on a 'B' road, then don't be surprised when you see blue lights in your rear view mirror. Most of these offenders were over taking other vehicles travelling at or just below the limit so we can only put this down to impatience."

All offenders were clocked between 68 - 80mph, including four motorcycles. A Honda NX650 was recorded at 78mph and also subsequently seized for no insurance.

The rider said they only came out for a quick ride from Weymouth. Some of the motorcycles had pillion passengers on, with one KTM being recorded at 72mph.The rider stated: "Sorry, I didn't look at the speedometer".

A BMW 330 was recorded at 76mph and its driver stated: "Sorry I went to overtake a car and it sped up so I did".

On the way there, officers also recorded a Triumph motorcycle at 100mph, a Ford Fiesta at 91 MPH and a Ford Focus at 89 MPH on the A35.
