EMERGENCY services were called after the body of a swimmer was found in the water.
Police, forensics officers and coastguards were all called to Shore Road, Sandbanks, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man in his 70s from Wimborne was spotted in the sea near the road on the morning of Wednesday June 24.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police received a call from the ambulance service at 11.27am requesting assistance in relation to a man requiring medical attention after being found in the water off the beach near to Shore Road in Poole.
“Officers attended and sadly the man – aged in his 70s and from the Wimborne area – was pronounced dead at the scene.
“His next of kin has been informed and the coroner has been notified.
“Officers will be making enquiries to establish the circumstances of the death, which is not being treated as suspicious.”
