I'VE been an independent member of the previous Weymouth Harbour board and currently am on the current Dorset Harbours committee and have constantly sought to get the idea of a ferry back on the agenda without much luck.

Whilst the previous council's development director was in post, it was an impossible task, as he wanted all the peninsula to be developed with entertainment facilities and a hotel.

We are now left with a substantial area which does provide some car parking income, but has no other economic activity. The secure commercial area is little used and with no marketing or business development plans, will stay empty for the foreseeable future.

The link span itself, No3 berth, has to stay in operation as part of the requirements of recent harbour revision order.

The income both direct and indirect from a ferry would be substantial and coupled with the desperate need for increased activity in the outer harbour, of huge benefit to the town.

I would ask council members to consider this positively in order to allow further discussions to formally take place with possible ferry operators.

I'm unable to see how there could be any good reason not to use this existing harbour facility for the return of a ferry to the port.
