Kids in lockdown across Dorset can join a free Zoom session aimed at looking after children's mental health.

Weymouth mum Sian Parsons, 39, works with schools, charities and youth groups to run Relax Kids sessions and has recently started using Zoom due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Relax Kids teaches children mindful and relaxation techniques alongside values and positive psychology to help support children's emotional health and wellbeing.

Mrs Parsons said: "I initially trained as a Relax Kids coach to learn some new skills to help my son who needed help regulating his emotions and feeling. After running a Saturday class with six children I realised that there was a big gap in the market in regards to a class that can help children become resilient and give them tools and techniques to manage their emotional and mental health.

"It's so important now more than ever to ensure that our children have these skills as their mental health could have been affected massively during the pandemic. I have been running sessions for over two years now and I have switched from face to face sessions to Zoom, which has worked really well. I even have a child who attends the sessions that lives in Portugal."

Now Mrs Parsons has set up a free Zoom session in support of the Shine 21 Dorset Down Syndrome Buddy Group charity.

She added: "I have some sessions for charity previously and knowing how much charities are struggling at the moment, and with them being local, I wanted to support them. One of the children also attended my after school club at Conifers Primary.

"With all of the stories recently that attract negative comments, I want to run a session that looks at how we are all different, but we can celebrate these differences."

The session will be on Tuesday, June 30 at 5.30pm via Zoom. There is a suggested donation towards the Shine 21 charity of £3 per household.
