A WOMAN was stretchered to safety after breaking her ankle on the beach.

A spokesman for Wyke Regis Coastguard Rescue Team said: "We were tasked along with Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team to assist paramedics extract a casualty from Castle Cove beach.

"The female had sustained a broken ankle. She was placed in our stretcher after the injury was straightened and splinted.

"Luckily access was gained via the old Castle Cove slipway avoiding the steep steps and making our job a lot easier.

"The casualty was soon in the ambulance and on route to hospital."
