A lifestyle shop has launched a range of face masks to raise money for a local disabilities charity.

The Hambledon Gallery in Blandford, known as Dorset's original lifestyle shop, is selling protective masks as a way of fundraising for Diverse Abilities.

The novelty masks have been designed by local painter Henrietta Young and she hopes they will provide some light-hearted relief for many during the pandemic.

She said: “I have been working with Diverse Abilities and its adult’s day centre, The Beehive, for quite some time. The adults that the charity supports are so fantastic and have remained in my thoughts throughout these unusual months.

"The design of these masks, with a fabric tongue poking through, are a little something that I hope will bring a bit of amusement to people in the streets or on public transport in the coming months."

There are six designs available for purchase, each at £15 with all of the profits going to Diverse Abilities. The designs use Liberty London print fabrics all come with a pocket for a filter. There is also a children's version available designed to look like a frog.

Helen Mortimer, development manager at Diverse Abilities, said: "We are thrilled to be supported by the team at The Hambledon Gallery and Henrietta, who is part of our fundraising panel for The Splash Appeal. As lockdown restrictions start to ease and some of our charity’s services come back to life, many of the people we support will need to continue to be in isolation for months to come.

"The funds raised from these masks can help to provide support our COVID-19 emergency response."

Masks can be purchased in store at The Hambledon Gallery, Blandford, or online at hambledongallery.co.uk. Visit the Diverse Abilities website for more information.
