A hospital patient has died after testing positive for coronavirus - the first recorded Covid-19 related death in a Dorset hospital in four weeks.

The patient died under the care of the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (RCBH) on Monday.

It is the only death recorded in a hospital in the south west in the past 24 hours.

Prior to this, the last recorded death at a Dorset hospital was on June 15.

It means 156 people have died in the county's hospitals after testing positive for the virus.

RCBH has recorded 68 deaths since the outbreak began, the first being March 25.

At Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester, 24 patients have died. Deaths took place between March 21 and May 25.

Poole Hospital has recorded 48 deaths since the outbreak began. The ealiest recorded death was March 16 and the most recent was June 1.

Sixteen people have died under the care of Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust. The first recorded death was March 25 and the most recent was June 5.

The trust, which runs community hospitals across the county, said it could not comment on which hospitals deaths have occurred due to patient confidentiality.

It comes as a further 22 people, who tested positive for the Covid-19, have died at hospitals in England, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,125.

Patients were aged between 54 and 93. All patients had known underlying health conditions.
