ANOTHER major event in the Dorset sporting calendar has been postponed due to the ongoing fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.

The 2020 BustinSkin Classic and Sprint Triathlon, which is a hugely popular annual event in Weymouth, has been postponed.

The event was due to take place on Sunday, September 6, when competitors would have set off on a 1.5km swim, followed by a 40km bike ride and a 10km run.

In a post on social media, the organisers said: "Sadly, we are going to have to postpone this event as we cannot facilitate it in the current climate given the new restrictions imposed on us from the governing body the British Triathlon Federation and the restrictions imposed on the race venue. We just don’t have the space or infrastructure required by the current guidance to run the event ‘COVID Safe’

"The restrictions may well be lifted by time race day comes round but we wont have enough time to gather what we need for an event we would be happy to put on.

"This is the last thing we wanted to do as we thought there may have been a glimmer of hope, but alas, 2020 is not to be, hopefully people stand with us and we all move in to 2021 with a much better outlook on life.

"As you may have seen from other event organisers, most of your entry fees go into paying for a whole load of schnizz way before the event and so a refund at this time isn’t viable for a small company like ourselves, we will automatically transfer your entry to the respective race in 2021. If this doesn’t work for you we will transfer you any of our other 2021 events in due course.

"We have watched as hundreds of other races have also been cancelled and have seen a lot of negativity shown to race directors and events for doing so, personally I get the frustration but, people, we must put this into perspective in the current climate.

"We thank you all for the support you have all shown to us over the past 15 years - we hope we are here to provide you with great races for another 15."
