What an image of the blackbird jumping up and down in the bird water, in Ron Kirby’s letter!

He is quite right to highlight the situation of birds drinking and bathing in the same water.

Our own birdbath has an additional problem.

For a long time, crows have come, usually daily, though less so in the summer, to dunk hunks of dry white bread which they have found somewhere, to soften them ready for eating.

The resultant gloop, like a kind of bread soup made from the leftovers, looks disgusting and is awful for other birds, needing fresh water again to clear the mess.

Does anyone else have similar problems, I wonder?
