A section of the B3157 Weymouth to Bridport coast road was closed after a crash involving two vehicles with fears of people trapped.

It happened around 7.30pm yesterday.

Police, paramedics and two fire engines attended the scene outside Bagwell Farm near Chickerell.

Police said it involved a Ford Kuga registered to a man from Derby and a Honda registered to a man from Bridport. They said it was a 'slight injury' collision.

A force spokesman said there had been reports of people trapped following the collision but this was not the case when officers got there.

The road was closed between Chickerell and Portesham while emergency services dealt with the incident. Drivers were urged to use alternative routes if possible.

Some oil on the road had to be cleaned up.

There was a delay in the road being fully reopened last night as a recovery vehicle called to assist at the incident broke down at the scene and had to be repaired, police said.

The incident was closed at 10.30pm.

Weymouth Fire Station said: "Thankfully no serious injuries and casualty was able to get out under his own steam, now in care of (ambulance service).
