THE Countrymen’s Club, Rylands Farm, Boyshill (near Sherborne) under usual times operates a club for men with a rural or farming background to get back on the farm, make friends, have lunch and work on projects

Due to the changes we have all had to deal with over the last few months, the groups have been unable to meet as usual, but we have been doing our utmost to provide a lifeline of links both to the countrymen and their wives and carers.

On VE Day we delivered cakes to some of the group using vintage tractors and we have been sending out regular newsletters and updates as well as quizzes and the links on our Facebook page, CountrymenUK.

We have been trying to keep these pathways open by providing opportunities for them to revisit the farm on a 1 to 1 basis or in a very small group. During their visit, we have offered a cream tea and a tour of the farm and a chance for a chat.

We are looking to opening this service up to other local men from similar backgrounds along with their wives, carers or partners to give them an opportunity of an afternoon out in a safe and socially distanced environment. It is a chance to see the animals and have a look at some of the handiwork the countrymen have created over the years. If you are interested in joining us, please call 01963 210703 or message us on our CountrymenUK Facebook page and we will happily book you in for a visit. There will be a small fee to cover the cost of the refreshments. The newsletters are also published monthly on our Facebook page or contact us if you would like us to email you a copy.
