A DECISION is expected this week on an alcohol licence for a café and ice cream parlour at West Bay.

Three councillors sat on Friday to hear the application from the Cherries Ice Cream Parlour, Pier Terrace, West Bay in the name of Marianna Browning.

She is asking for a licence to sell alcohol, both on the premises, and off, between 9am until 9pm daily.

The meeting heard that although 9pm was being asked for the normal closure time of 6pm was generally to be applied, the extra hours being asked for to give some flexibility to deal with any additional demand. In application documents it was said that alcohol would only be served with meals.

None of the statutory bodies, including the police, have raised any objection to the licence being granted.

The licensing sub-panel, of three councillors, heard that there had been one letter of objection which related, not to the café, but to a general point about drunken behaviour on the nearby Green.

Neither the objector, nor Mrs Browning, appeared at the online Dorset Council meeting.

The panel adjourned the meeting after hearing the request and said it would announce a decision within five working days.
