Being lucky enough to grow up by the coast, many of you have made the most of it - getting up early to watch the Radio 1 Roadshow, enjoying Weymouth Carnival day and recalling those lazy days of summer on the beach

Heartthrobs Bros playing the Radio 1 Roadshow on Weymouth Beach sparked a lot of memories. Jo Kempster said: “It was the biggest day in Weymouth history! I remember seeing them flying across in their helicopter. What a day!” Joanna Caswell said: “We were there in the front row at 6am and I remember them getting out of the limo

Jane Warr says: “I remember being sat by the beach hut for hours while my mum worked serving the tea, her passing us a hot dog under the counter, the summer seemed long and hot then I loved to run over to Woolworths to get a bag of broken biscuits to share.”

Lee Selby remembers the Saturday morning 80s children’s TV programme Get Fresh doing filming in Weymouth. It was presented by Gareth Jones, AKA Gaz Top. The show is believed to have been on Weymouth beach on July 5, 1986

Sue Hogben remembers a wet and wild time watching waves come over the sea wall at Preston and Jane Warr remembers her husband, who worked for the council at the time, having to sweep the shingle up afterwards

Pictured is a 1990 Navy fly past over Portland. Ben Symonds remembers Portland’s Royal Naval Base, which closed in 1999. He recalls: “ I remember when the navy were actually there, I was in the sea cadets and stayed on the base for a week. Fry ups in the morning, sailing and all sorts. It was a great experience. Although I didn’t do this there but it was part of being in the cadets I got to go in a Sea King helicopter and that was amazing, the door open, banking round it was like you were going out the door but, well, it was something else.”
