A Bridport supermarket could open 24 hours.

Dorset Council has approved a variation to a licence for Morrisons in West Bay Road to vary the hours for the sale of retail and alcohol to 24 hours Monday to Sunday inclusive and to permit late night refreshment from 11pm to 5am Monday to Sunday inclusive.

If alcohol is being sold between midnight and 6am, a security guard will be on duty during that period.

The application received no objections in the 28 days between it being submitted on June 22 and July 20.

Bridport Town Council is not consulted when licence applications are submitted but it would like this to be changed.

Will Austin, clerk at Bridport Town Council, said: “Dorset Council does not consult with town and parish councils on licensing applications, although I have written to them asking them to review that policy. I think it would be sensible to ask us to comment on behalf of the community.”
