A number of Dorset eateries, pubs and bars have applied for sitting out licences.
Businesses across Dorchester, Weymouth, Portland and Bridport have applied to have tables and chairs outside their premises.
A new application process has been brought in to help businesses expand their premises on the highway during the Covid-19 pandemic. The normal process can take up to 10 weeks, including a statutory 28 days consultation period.
To support businesses reopening, the public consultation period has been reduced to five working days and the licence will be determined within five working days, starting the first day after the end of the public consultation period.
If no objections are received during the five day notice period and conditions are followed, a free 12 week licence will be issued, after which it will be reviewed.
