THIS fantastic picture and accompanying video were captured in the midst of an onslaught of thunder and lightning yesterday.

The turbulent weather continued as pockets of rain and stormy conditions intertwined with spells of sun.

James Croucher was up at the top of Furzy Cliff overlooking Weymouth Bay at around 5.30pm when he was able to capture this stunning image.

He said: “I love storm chasing so any time there’s some lighting I make sure to get out there, yesterday I happened to get there at the perfect time.

“I actually thought the lightning was over. There were some fascinating colours and patterns in the sky and I was trying to capture that. All of a sudden, a couple of lightning bolts come out of the sky and I ended up with this picture.

“I love it when the weather’s like this, photographing storms is one of my favourite hobbies.”

The contrasting weather made for a number of excellent images, as multiple rainbows formed as a result of the frequent changes between sun and rain.

Robert Higgins captured a picture of a rainbow in front of a peaceful sky in Coldharbour, Chickerell, whilst Norman Apps also snapped an image of a rainbow, this time over greenery in Nottington.

Both images were able to capture the elusive ‘double rainbow’, as both the primary and secondary rainbow can be seen.

Weather over the weekend looks to be cloudy with sunny spells. Sunday is set to be the brightest day of the weekend, with consistent sun throughout and highs of 20c. There is little chance of rain over the next few days.
