A DRIVER suspected to be under the influence of drugs has been arrested as police continue their crackdown on driving offences.

The driver of a Ford Focus was arrested at the scene after providing a positive drug sample at roadside. Police are currently awaiting the blood results.

Dorset Police’s No Excuse team has issued a number of charges for various road offences as it continues its campaign against unsafe driving.

Police pulled over a van which had recently failed an MOT, upon inspection they discovered its tyres were in dangerous condition.

The driver was reported to court and was issued with a PG9, which means he cannot drive the van on a road until the tyres are replaced and he gets an MOT.

An unmarked police car was overtaken by a Moped with no ‘L’ plates displayed. When police stopped the vehicle for a check, they discovered he had an ‘L’ plate under his rear wheel arch, which was not visible to vehicles behind.

The driver had only collected the vehicle from the compound one day before, after it was seized for having no insurance.

Whilst he had insured the vehicle, the MOT was still out of date so the driver was reported to court for a second time.

Police also stopped a speeding BMW driver who was in a hurry to get to work. They noticed the tints on the front windows of the vehicle recorded just 25 per cent of light, when legally they should record at least 70 per cent.
