A DORCHESTER bank is still unable to open after being battered by the torrential downpour that hit the county last week.

The Halifax Bank branch on South Street has been closed since sustaining damage during last week’s storms.

Storm Francis wreaked havoc in Dorset last week, causing more than 40mm of rainfall within six hours in some parts of the county, flooding roads and causing the temporary closure of a number of businesses.

A spokesperson for Halifax said: “Following adverse weather conditions, the Halifax Dorset branch is temporarily closed, due to building damage.

“Customer and colleague safety is our priority and we have been working hard to ensure that the branch can reopen safely as soon as possible.

“Works are now being completed and we aim to reopen the branch early next week.”

There is currently no date as to when the branch will be able to reopen.
