TWO sailors were rescued after getting stuck on a buoy of Portland.
A motor yacht was on passage from Lyme Regis to Weymouth when it became stuck at about 9.30am yesterday. The 12-metre yacht was about three miles north-west of Portland Bill when a pot buoy rope became entangled around its propeller.
The Weymouth RNLI all-weather lifeboat launched after receiving the distress call, arriving just after 10.30am to the delight of the two people on board the yacht. A spokesman said: "The volunteer crew of the lifeboat struggled for some time to free the rope from the yachts propeller but eventually managed to cut it free.
"Once free, a line was passed and the vessel was towed to a safe anchorage just outside Weymouth Harbour, arriving at 2.04pm.
"The lifeboat then returned to its berth, refuelled and made ready for the next shout."
