Police seized a car after intervening in a road rage incident on Portland.

Whilst in the Portland area yesterday, a Peugeot came to the attention of Dorset Police's dedicated No Excuse road safety team.

A spokesman said: "The front seat passenger was shouting at another motorist. We intervened and checked both cars, resulting in the Peugeot being seized for no insurance.

"The driver thought she was insured on another vehicle. We are not sure what the original incident was about but we are pleased we've taken another uninsured vehicle of our roads."

The No Excuse team also dealt with a number of other incidents.

The spokesman added: "On the way to Weymouth on the A35 a VW Golf sped past the police car doing 89mph.

"The driver and passenger were on their way to Weymouth to visit a friend from Hampshire.

"The driver stated he'd heard of the Dorset Police No Excuse team but didn't think much of it. As he'd never seen us out and about, until today. He then said 'I believe it now, I've never been caught before, I will slow down'. We hope he does. The driver was issued a fixed penalty.

"On Weymouth sea front we observed a Ford Transit driver operating his mobile phone in his right hand, whilst looking down at it. He wasn't paying attention and didn't see us turn around.

"When stopped he said 'Sorry I thought it was ok, as I was in slow moving traffic approaching the lights'. No Excuse, six points and a £200 fine.
