ORGANISERS behind Weymouth Carnival have been forced to cancel their AGM due to new coronavirus restrictions on social gatherings.

The group had been due to hold a public AGM at Pilgrim House on Thursday September 17, which they hoped would drum up even more support for the extravaganza.

But the recent government announcement banning groups of over six people from meeting from Monday has scuppered the plans.

The team has decided to host a Zoom call in place of the event, allowing members of the public to have their say on the proceedings. Details of the date and time will be announced in due course.

John Simpson, vice chairman of the Weymouth Carnival Group, said: “It’s definitely put a bit of a dampener on things. We felt we were really beginning to gain some traction and now things seem a lot more uncertain.

“It feels like it all up in the air again now.”

Those who would like to participate in the Zoom call are advised to get in contact with Mr Simpson on 07824997757 or at johncarnivalweymouth@gmail.com for details on how they can join.
