Police are investigating the rape of a woman in Weymouth.
Officers were called early today to reports a woman had been attacked off Dennis Road, Westham.
It happened outside in the early hours of the morning on a footpath linking the Marsh playing fields behind Weymouth Swimming Pool to Dennis Road, to the rear of Abbotsbury Road.
There is a police presence in the area and a cordon is in place, with an officer manning the cordon.
Dorset Police said the investigation was at an 'early stage'. No-one has been arrested.
Residents in the area have told of their shock as police continue to investigate the incident.
A Dorset Police spokesman said: "We were called at 2.06am on Friday to reports of a rape of a woman in Dennis Road in Weymouth.
"An investigation is underway to ascertain what occurred and to get a full account from the woman.
"A cordon is in place while officers carry out their investigations of the scene. No arrests have been made.
"As our investigations are at an early stage we are unable to provide further details at this time."
