You could now get married in the Broadchurch police station after permission was given to turn it into a wedding venue.

Dorset Council has given the green light for change of use at The Folly in West Bay, which was used as the front of the police station in the hit ITV series. It previously had permission for a shop and café and was being used as storage.

Plans were submitted earlier this year, but Bridport Town Council raised concerns of noise, the lack of parking, the no waiting zone where the bride would be dropped off and guests throwing confetti.

Plans were withdrawn and a new application in April aimed to address concerns from the council and residents.

It stated it would cater for 50 to 55 people - 60 including staff and registrar - but would not be offering any sit-down meals or form of evening entertainment and noise would be the occasional cheering and clapping. It would also be made clear to the wedding party that there is only one space with the venue for the registrar to park and others would have to park in the public car park and that the bride could not be dropped off at the steps.

The application also said ceremonies would be offer seven days a week, but permission states it can only be Monday to Friday from 9am to 7pm to protect the amenity of nearby residents. Change of use permission is only valid until December 31, 2020, when another application should be submitted. This is because it is hard to assess the impact it will have on nearby residents, so a temporary period has been granted.

One letter of support said the updated application showed the applicant went to great lengths to ensure minimal disruption and the venue could bring additional income to businesses in West Bay.

The application attracted two letters objecting with concerns of noise from smokers outside the venue, lack of parking nearby in West Bay and the amount of people allowed at the venue.
