A MAN is in critical condition in hospital after taking suspected drugs on Weymouth seafront.

Police officers and ambulance services were called to the beach huts near to Old Pier Bandstand Café on The Esplanade.

Dorset Police say a man in his 20s had suffered a medical episode after taking a quantity of suspected drugs.

He was taken to hospital for further treatment where he remains in a critical condition. 

A police cordon was in place from Monday night until this afternoon as officers investigated the incident. 

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: “We were called at 11.21pm on Monday, September 14 by the ambulance service to reports a man aged in his 20s had suffered a medical episode after taking a quantity of suspected drugs near to the Old Pier Bandstand Café on The Esplanade in Weymouth. 

“He remains in a critical condition in hospital. A scene remains in place while officers carry out their enquiries.

“No arrests have been made.”

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Trust added: “We were called on Monday at 11.10pm about an incident on the Esplanade, Weymouth. 

“We responded to a seriously ill male patient, treated him at the scene and transported him to hospital.”
