Each week in this section we speak to someone with a passion for vehicles - today it’s the turn of Peter Griffin of Bovington

A vintage vehicle rescued from under a fir tree is the pride and joy of motoring enthusiast Peter Griffin.

Peter restored the 1967 Fiat 600D 10 years ago after it had sat under a fir tree in a garden in Bournemouth.

He said: “It has been registered within 30 miles of my home all its life. There are 61 of these vehicles taxed and on the road in the UK."

Peter has owned the Fiat for 15 years and also has a 2012 Kia “Sportage”, which he has owned for eight years.

As the chairman of the Weymouth Vehicle Preservation Society, in a normal year Peter and the club’s nearly 200 members would attend shows and village fetes and raise money for the charity that the Society’s members vote for each year.

Peter said: “Since our inception in 1984 we have raised over £90k for local charities.”

New upholstery at last for the Fiat!

At the age of 17 in 1962 Peter bought an “old banger”- A 1945 Morris Eight Series E.

And the car enthusiast has his eye on a particular vehicle!

“We lived in Germany for over 20 years and had several Volvos. The Volvo 360 is the one I would like,” he tells us.

QUESTIONS FOR PETER..

What do you think a car says about its driver?

It depends on the driver. Youngsters like to look “cool”, whatever that means. We of more mature years just want comfortable reliable transport.

What’s your favourite road to drive on and why? From West Bay to West Lulworth. The views are amazing.

Would you ever go electric and why?

For every day use I would go all electric. It is much better for the environment, and cheaper to run, however the cars are too expensive and the infrastructure needs to improve.
