POLICE investigating the beheading of a pet cat in Weymouth will be following up some leads passed on by members of the public.

The cat was found dead in Wyke Oliver Road, Preston, at around 6.20am on Saturday, September 5.

A vet believes a 'sharp instrument' had been used in the attack and that the injury was not likely to have been caused by another animal.

Since they released details of the 'despicable' attack, a spokeswoman for Dorset Police said that the force has received some responses which officers will follow up.

She added that no one has been arrested at this time.

Police Constable Jon Park, of Dorset Police, said: “This was a despicable and concerning act targeting a defenceless animal and I would urge anyone with information about who is responsible to please come forward.

“This has understandably been very traumatic for the owner of the cat, who has lost her much loved pet.”

Councillor Louie O'Leary, councillor representing the Littlemoor and Preston ward at Dorset Council, said he was 'disgusted' by the cruel act.
