The FIRE service has issued an amber warning for wildfires this weekend, with the public encouraged to take care.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service announced the amber alert and shared advice to help the public stay safe.

The alert means that, should a wildfire happen, it could spread quickly and easily due to the dry and windy conditions.

This was seen with the major incident in Wareham Forest in May where 220 hectares of land were damaged and killed wildlife.

Wildfires can be caused by a number of reasons, including deliberate fire setting, littering disposable barbecues and cigarettes as well as campfires and bonfires either being left unattended or getting out of control.

People were urged not to have campfires, have barbecues in designated areas, ensure cigarettes are out, and take litter home.

If a person discovers a fire, they should keep a safe distance and call 999.
